Gag me.
I'm about as far from a football fan as it's possible to be. I think I was 23 before I understood that the little yellow line you see on TV isn't actually painted on the field. But even I'd heard of Joe Paterno. He could coach the fuck out of some college football.
Big fat DON'T CARE on this end.
That is until he enabled the rape of innocent children. It was about the time he actively ignored the most base violation against a tiny human there is that I started to care. And now he's dead and people are vomiting hero worship all over his name while who knows how many victims of his blind eye are still trying to pick up the pieces of their lives.
Child molesters are murderers of the person their victim would and should have been. There is nothing more unforgivable than the violation of a child. There is nothing more vile, nothing more inhumane, nothing more evil, nothing more horrifying.
Enabling a child rapist is just as bad as being a child rapist.
So I don't care how many football games he won. I don't care what his accomplishments were. I don't care that leaving the job he loved so dearly (so dearly he sacrificed many mamas' babies for it) very likely hastened his death. Instead I choose to weep for the children whose lives were forever changed because Joe Paterno's football team was more important than their right to be innocent and safe.

Doubtless some will be offended by my thoughts on Paterno. I'm offended by child rape. I guess we all have issues.

12 People Love My Gucci:
I'm with ya Gucci.
as the grandmother to a child that was severely sexually molested by his "step-father," I find the entire thing repulsive. I'm getting sick of the people that say "well he did tell someone." Well IF he did he damn well didn't do enough. You don't stop until you get someone's attention, you don't give up and let it happen to countless other children, you don't stop until justice is done. By his actions he enabled more lives that can probably be counted be ruined.
I know, I look in the eyes of my grandson and I die. When I watch him stare off into space with that haunted look on his face, I want to kill. We won't stop until the offender is caught and prosecuted so he can spend his time with "Bubba." Paterno had that same ability but a sport was God to him and children were, well, just items. Sorry this probably doesn't make sense. I'm seething as I write this and my thoughts are scrambled.
Exactly my thoughts.
He's a piece of shit
Fuck him, and I hope he burns.
Damn right Gucci !
I hear the paterno worshippers say, "Well, a man his age couldn't understand such things". Bullshit ! The man could understand enough to coach a division 1 football team, but couldn't understand it was wrong to molest children????
I have to agree with Bipolar Diva up there. If he told his superiors and they did nothing, he should taken it to their superiors and on and on until it stopped.
Joe Paterno was like a god at Penn State. Am I to believe someone with his clout couldn't draw attention from the authorities to stop that monster Sandusky? No, Joe Pa is not a saint. He is a pedophile enabler, plain and simple.
Well, I'm going to kind of defend Paterno. BUT, make no mistake, I feel he is guilty of a crime and he should not be receiving the adulation of so many. I believe he reported to his superiors what he knew, and then was told to keep quiet about it. He was just following orders at that point, everybody has a boss. HOWEVER, what he should have done at that point is take it upon himself to see to it that Jerry Sandusky never set foot in the football building, that Paterno had full charge over, again. He should have used his enormous clout in Happy Valley and seen to it that the man was put behind bars as opposed to working out in the Penn State facilities. If he was told to keep quiet by his superiors as I believe, at that point is where he made his mistake. He should have refused to coach a football team at a university that enabled the pedophile. His mistake was putting his love for coaching football in front of what was the right thing to do, and that's protect the victims and future victims. As great as he was at coaching football, he ultimately failed as a man.
I agree with Denny. He should have gone to the authorities. Instead, he went to Penn State Security, claiming they had "more experience" in these matters.
I don't care if the details were sketchy. I don't care if it happened 15+ years ago. There were a long line of people who knew something was going on and chose to do nothing. They enabled it. And because of that, innocent families are damaged beyond repair.
Could not agree more. Not sure I am buying the 'he told someone' he was a grown ASS MAN who KNEW what was happening was wrong all the way around and I wonder if it had been on of his children or grandkids would he have walked away so easily??
You're right. What he didn't do outweighs what he did do.
For as long as I can remember, people have laughed and joked about rape of males, even of boys. It has always been given a pass, right up until someone sued the Catholic Church and suddenly a flood of male victims came pouring out from everywhere, forcing the media and the public to briefly acknowledge the mere possibility that these victims exist and that it destroys their lives every bit as much as it does women. Not that the public cared, even so. They just took it as an excuse to make jokes about the Catholic Church and nothing more. Now this Coach Sandusky gets exposed as a serial rapist of males, and after him several other gay coaches just like him. And yet all we hear about relating to this case is Joe Paterno and how much he knew and what did he do or not do. How about someone asking why hasn't Sandusky been shot in the face yet and put out of our misery for all the evil that he's done? How about we focus on that shitpile of a human being and let Paterno lie in his grave while we focus on the issue that we have ignored virtually forever? Ah, but we won't. This whole thing will die with Paterno and be ignored after this. He was the only reason the news media even cared at all.
WONDERFUL Post.thanks for share..
